Yes I know I have neglected this blog. There is really no excuse, but I have been diligently working on my travel blog about my big trip last fall. It is a very daunting task since I have about 2000 pictures from the 19 days. If you are interested check it out at
http://erinnsediblestravels.blogspot.com/Today is my sister’s birthday. A few weeks ago I asked her what she wanted on her cake, she answered as normal, I don’t care. Then my 12 year old nephew spoke up saying you should have a Twilight cake, since that is my sister’s latest obsession. So a Twilight cake it was.

As I often do, I went online to get some ideas on what to make based on other Twilight themed cakes. I noticed many of the cakes had a black and white chess board base like the cover of one of the books. I was pretty excited about the prospect of doing a checked cake and decided to go that route. I will say it took quite a while, like an hour, to map out the boxes on the cake (then had to fill in the squares with frosting), but over all I think it turned out pretty good.

Originally I planned to put an apple (from another one of the book’s cover) on the top, but ran out of time. I actually think this turned out cuter.

Now that I have this checked design figured out, there are endless possibilities…..
